Emperor file manager

Emperor is an orthodox file manager for the GNOME desktop. It uses a two-pane “Commander”-style layout familiar to users of Total Commander, Krusader, or Midnight Commander. Emperor strives to bring this style of file management to the modern GNOME desktop by using GIO and GVfs, the technologies that are used in Nautilus and across the GNOME desktop to access the file system.

With Emperor, it doesn't matter where your files are: mounting and using remote file systems is kept simple, and Emperor will transparently open archive files as if they were normal directories to make it easy to copy files from anywhere, to anywhere.

Download

The latest version of Emperor is 0.2 (Basil), released on June 26, 2012.

Source: tar.xz (624K) / tar.gz (912K)
Arch Linux: AUR package

To build the source, you will need a working C compiler, UNIX shell and make, as well as GTK+3, libxml2, and libgee version 0.7 (or higher) with their respective header files and dependencies. Note that libgee-0.7 can easily be installed in parallel with an older version of libgee. Emperor is written in Vala, the programming language designed for GNOME and the GObject type system. The Vala compiler is not required in order to build Emperor from the source tarball.

You can find the most recent development version of the source code in Emperor's repository on GitHub.
